A DRUNKEN woman who ripped a wing mirror off a car after she was denied a cigarette has been convicted for criminal damage.

Saphire Louise Thomas, 20, from, Eastbourne, pulled the wing mirror off the Citreon in scorn after being denied  rizla and filter paper.

Brighton Magistrates heard police initially received a call just before midnight on July 30, after cars were damaged at supported housing development The Foyer in St Andrews Court, Valley Road, Newhaven.

Two people were arrested, and Thomas was seen at the scene intoxicated.

Melanie Wotton, for the Crown Prosecution Service, said: “Thomas then knocked on the door of resident Calum Young asking for rizla and filter paper and was told by him that he did not have any.

“At that point she told him ‘OK then I will get your car’, and went to the car park and pulled the wing mirror off causing £300 damage to the Citroen Saxo.”

Thomas of Jevington Gardens, Eastbourne plead guilty to criminal damage to property valued under £5,000.

Mitigating her solicitor Stephanie Dale said: “She was very sorry to find herself in this situation which came out of drinking too much alcohol.

“She has no recollection of the events and is very sorry.

“She is surprised to be here and sorry for her actions on that night.”

Sentencing chair of the bench Andrew Tiffen handed down a £300 compensation order to pay for the damage to Mr Young’s car.
