SIX arrests were made in connection with the Albion v Crystal Palace match last night.

But it was a night of no significant trouble for Sussex Police, who kept fans under control in Brighton city centre and around the Amex stadium.

Two men were charged, while a further three remain in custody for questioning.

Lee Bull, 52, of Tower Road in Lancing, was arrested and charged with assaulting a police officer in Queens Road, Brighton.

Vincent Kimber, 46, of Main Road, Biggin Hill, Bromley, was charged with possession of cannabis at the Amex, and bailed to appear at Brighton Magistrates' Court on January 25.

An 18-year-old man from Beckenham, Bromley, was arrested at the Amex on suspicion of using threatening, abusive or insulting words or behaviour with intent to cause fear of violence. He was given a fixed penalty notice.

A 56-year-old man from Crawley was arrested on suspicion of using threatening, abusive or insulting words or behaviour with intent to cause fear of violence remains in custody, along with a 30-year-old man from Sidcup, Bexley, who was arrested on suspicion of assault occasioning actual bodily harm.

A 25-year-old man from West Molesey, Surrey, is in custody on suspicion of assault and throwing a missile on to the pitch – this arrest was made in relation to the Albion v Palace match last November, when the offence allegedly happened.

A spokeswoman for Sussex Police said the force is "reflecting on a successful operation" at the match.
