A CARE home worker has resigned after being charged with seven counts of sexual offences against teenage boys.

Kristopher Smith, who worked at Rottingdean Nursing Home, is alleged to have committed six counts of sexual activity with one of the youngsters.

Smith, 31, is accused of committing the offences between 2013 and 2017. According to Sussex Police, the boy was 14 when the alleged offences began.

Smith, of The Bricky in Peacehaven, was charged on January 9.

He is also accused of sexually assaulting another boy, aged 16 or over, in December 2016.

The offences he is accused of do not relate in any way to his work at the home for the elderly.

Smith has been released on bail, and is due to appear at Brighton Magistrates’ Court on February 8.

The Argus can reveal he has resigned from his role at the home in Newlands Road, which specialises in cancer care, supporting residents living with Parkinson’s Disease, multiple sclerosis and other illnesses.

Smith’s Facebook page states he was a support worker at the home and had worked at a number of other care homes across the region in the past.

Carol Breeds, manager of Rottingdean Nursing Home, originally put the phone down when we contacted her for a comment regarding her employee.

When we called back, Ms Breeds said: “I cannot comment.

“He has resigned. He no longer works here.

“It’s a matter for the police and the courts.”

Ms Breeds refused to tell us if the home suspended Smith when he was charged, or reveal the exact date he resigned.

But the Argus understands Smith has been working at the home recently.

A Sussex Police spokesman said: “On Tuesday, January 9, police charged Kristopher Smith, 31, a care home worker, of The Bricky, Peacehaven, with six counts of sexual activity with a child.

“The offences are alleged to have taken place between 2013 and 2017, the child involved being aged between 14 and 17 over this period.

“He was further charged with an offence of sexually assaulting a man aged 16 or over in December 2016.

“Smith has been released on bail to appear before Brighton magistrates on Thursday, February 8.”
