FAMILIES of Shoreham Airshow victims may get answers but not closure today as the final report into the crash is published by accident investigators.

That was the message from public figures as the long-awaited Air Accidents Investigation Branch (AAIB) probe into the tragedy which killed 11 men on August 22, 2015, is released.

The document is likely to have implications for industry watchdog the Civil Aviation Authority and form part of Sussex Police’s ongoing investigation into the disaster.

James Healy-Pratt, the lawyer representing the majority of the families, said the publication was critical in “the journey to find truth”.

The head of aviation at Stewarts Law said: “The families have waited patiently over the past 20 months as they want to see a comprehensive review of how this airshow disaster happened, what went wrong and how future innocent lives should be saved through important new safeguards.

“The families understand there will be unanswered questions after the AAIB report that are better answered through the coroner’s investigation and inquest and potentially the criminal investigation.

“Their journey to the truth is long but they are determined no stone should be left unturned so that lessons can be learned and appropriate actions taken.”
