Two people waking a dog had to be rescued after being cut off under cliffs by the incoming tide.
The walkers were trapped under cliffs west of Newhaven at about 11am on Wednesday.
One person had safely made their way back onto the shingle west beach at Newhaven and raised the alarm. But their companion was still stuck trying to rescue the dog from the water.
Newhaven Lifeboat crews found the man and his dog trapped in a cave that was being flooded by the incoming tide.
Luckily both the man and his beloved pet were taken to safety unharmed.
Coastguards have urged people to check tide times before walking under cliffs. Many free mobile phone tide apps are available. In a coastal emergency dial 999 and ask for Coastguard.
