ROAD improvements in Lewes will take place at the same time as installation of fibre broadband cabling to minimise disruption to residents.
East Sussex Highways is resurfacing Fisher Street, Market Street and West Street, with work starting on Monday, August 21, and due to last three weeks.
The dates have been co-ordinated with Virgin Media which will carry out work to install fibre cables at the same time, as part of a programme to expand its network in the town.
The work was scheduled after talks with Lewes Town Council, which agreed with the plan for work on the three roads to be carried out as part of the same scheme.
Cllr Nick Bennett, East Sussex County Council lead member for transport and environment, said: “The work we are carrying out will provide a safer, smoother surface for some of the busiest roads in Lewes.”
