LEWES District Council is claiming that its roll-out of the new waste and recycling scheme is on schedule and proving a big hit with local residents.

Thousands of new wheelie bins are now in place in all coastal towns, with Lewes and Ringmer homes next in the rollout programme.

This will be followed with the north of the district by July.

Phase one was completed at the end of last year with homes in East Saltdean, Telscombe and Peacehaven now in possession of a green bin with a blue lid.

Newhaven, Denton, South Heighton and Seaford residents received their bins in January and February as part of phase two.

Now delivery teams are preparing for the delivery of bins to Lewes and Ringmer.
