INDEPENDENT advisers are working with employers to offer financial wellbeing clinics to staff.

The scheme gives people the opportunity to talk to financial experts about a range of subjects including mortgages, tax, pensions and securing a financial future.

The scheme is led by Geoff Fillery, director of auto-enrolment with Sussex-based Spectrum IFA.

He said: “I manage group pensions for around 80 businesses and a key part of my job is to explain things in plain English to their employees.

“They always ask lots of questions, not just about pensions, but on all kinds of financial topics so I realised that there is a big demand for easily accessible information.

“Providing an opportunity in the workplace for employees to talk on a one-to-one basis to different specialists seemed to be an ideal format and this is being embraced by progressive employers.”

The clinics are being pioneered at 15below, a provider of personalised passenger communications for the travel industry.

Founded in 2000 in Brighton, 15below now works with more than 45 airline, rail and travel companies across the world.

The Brighton business is running a year-long wellbeing programme for its employees and according to Claire Parkin, Head of HR, financial wellbeing is an essential element.

She said: “Our wellbeing programme aims to support and inform our employees about many areas that can affect their personal and professional lives.

“Research has shown that 70 per cent of the UK’s employees are affected by financial worries and more than half admitted to being mentally and physically affected by their concerns.

“Our colleagues’ health and happiness is intrinsically linked to mental, financial and physical wellbeing.

“We want to support them by providing relevant advice and information from specialists and experts.”
