A MUSIC concert held in memory of a 21-year-old who tragically died has raised thousands of pounds for an orphanage project in his name.

The House Shout Fundraising Concert at Hurstpierpoint College's Bury Theatre raised a total of £2,900.

Cameron Forster from Burgess Hill, a former pupil at Hurstpierpoint College, went on to join the Royal Air Force as a student pilot.

But tragically he was killed in a civilian light aircraft accident when it came down in North Yorkshire in May this year at the age of 21.

Cameron was described as a talented pupil who threw himself into school life as a musician, sportsman, school prefect and house captain. He was also a longstanding player with Haywards Heath Rugby Football Club.

Cameron's mother, Amanda Jayne, who teaches Physics at Hurst is raising money to establish an orphanage and primary school in Zambia in Cameron's memory.

The concert featured highlights of winners from Hurst's annual House Music Competition.

Each house performed their ensemble piece from the original competition.

This year’s competition winners, Shield House, also performed their songs on the night, along with the winners of the house song category, which was won by Fleur House.

A whole-school Christmas Jumper Day at the end of term also raised over £3,120 for Cameron’s Orphanage Project.

Sarah Hyman, housemistress of Fleur said: “The Fleur girls have chosen to support Cameron’s Orphanage Project as one of their charities for this year.

“They were pleased to be able to run such a big event and all the students who took part were delighted to have the chance to perform their pieces a second time in front of their families.

“Everyone was proud to be able to support this important charity.”
