A NEWLY crowned team of champions will fight it out with their remote control robots at a live event.

Team Apollo from the BBC2 show Robot Wars will be taking part in a show at the Triangle Leisure Centre in Burgess Hill on Saturday, April 1 and Sunday, April 2.

Joining Apollo at Robot Live will be other famous faces from the new and old series of Robot Wars, including TR2, Eruption, Gabriel and Behemoth.

They will all be battling to be crowned the Robots Live champion in the event’s 11th year as part of a nationwide tour.

Dave Young, captain of Team Apollo, said: “After winning the new series of Robot Wars, we can’t wait to get in the arena again and fight in front of a live audience at Robots Live.

“Not only does it give our fans a chance to see the action up close, it gives us another house robot to attack.”

The house robots will be joining the other competitors in the arena along with the show’s robot boxers.

Keeping control of the 110kg heavyweights will be Goliath, standing five ft tall, who is capable of rolling over a car with his powerful crushing arm and tracked drive.

Alongside him will be BattleAxe, weighing in at 130kg and looking after the 13.6kg featherweight robots.

As well as the combat machines, the show also features a set of robot boxers standing at around 6ft tall that will compete against each other in a mechanical fist fight.

The arena is equipped with its own array of weapons including The Pit, a floor flipper and two large hammers which are controlled by the audience.

Alan Young, an organiser of the Robots Live tour, said: “The live touring version of the television show is taken around the UK for fans of the show to experience a different style of event which is more suited to a live audience.

“Some of the robots involved are the biggest stars of the Robot Wars television show, so it’s great for people to see the robots they know and love.

“We are expecting over a thousand guests at the show in Burgess Hill and it is usually one of our biggest shows during the tour.”

There will be three live shows taking place over the weekend.
