RESIDENTS of all ages braved the elements on Saturday to help with the clean-up of Primrose Close pond in Burgess Hill.

Despite the wet and cold weather, a large number of residents turned out to clear litter, cut back brambles and remove rubbish from the edge of the pond.

The wildlife living in and around the pond is enjoyed by people who live nearby and use the adjacent footpath.

Angela White, who nominated the pond for the clean-up and helped on the day, said: ”The pond is populated by fish and used by ducks, moorhens and the occasional heron.

“It was in a sad state, overgrown with vegetation and often used as a dumping ground for rubbish.

“I nominated it in the hope that it could be restored to its former beauty.”

The clean-up was co-ordinated by Burgess Hill Town Council and Mid Sussex District Council.

Future plans include clearing some of the vegetation from the pond and installing information boards about the wildlife that inhabit it.
