THE fiancée of one of the Shoreham Airshow disaster victims has admitted dealing drugs.

Giovanna Chirico – who was engaged to Mark Trussler - was arrested by Sussex Police and appeared at Lewes Crown Court yesterday to plead guilty to the charge of possession with intent to supply amphetamines.

Dressed in a black jumper and trousers, the 34-year-old, of Barton Close, Worthing, cried as she stood in the dock to confirm her name and admit the crime.

Defence barrister Rebecca Upton said Chirico had a “complex and quite tragic personal background”, adding: “She is the sole carer for four children and has clearly been struggling since the death of her partner.”

She suggested the crime was “intrinsically linked” to her ordeal, adding: “She is not somebody who has been heavily convicted [in that past].”

After being charged with the offence in January, the mother-of-four posted a picture of Mr Trussler on Facebook and said: “I miss u so much today I need you more than ever.”

Her arrest is understood to follow a four month investigation by police officers.

Nicknamed speed, prosecutor Kirsten Sharp previously told the court 280g of the class B drug, with a street value of £3,165, was found in a bag in Chirico's kitchen by police when they searched her home in September last year.

When the case originally came to Worthing Magistrates’ Court in February Ms Sharp said: “Miss Chirico said she knew it [the drug] was there but didn’t put it there.”

Chirico lost fiancé Mr Trussler, a 54-year-old Worthing window cleaner, when he and 10 other men were killed after a vintage Hawker Hunter jet failed to pull out of a loop-the-loop stunt in front of thousands of spectators on August 22, 2015.

The pair had three daughters and she has a son from a previous relationship.

On the anniversary of the tragedy she told The Argus: “People say with time it gets easier, but it doesn't. I'm here on my own with four kids.”

Granting her unconditional bail Recorder June Venters warned her to “make sure” she co-operated fully while the case was adjourned so reports could be submitted before she is sentenced on April 5.

The offence can carry a prison sentence of up to three years.
