A MAN has been arrested following a stand-off with police after threatening to endanger lives with an explosive.
Armed police were at the scene in Irving Walk, Crawley yesterday afternoon, with residents having to be escorted in and out of their homes by authorities for safety.
Irving Walk and Nash Road were cordoned off as police tried to co-operate with the man.
A spokesman for Sussex Police said a 42-year-old man was arrested on suspicion of possessing an explosive with intent to endanger life.
The man remains in custody.
The police spokesman said: "An investigation into the incident continues with the assistance of explosive ordnance disposal experts."
