Brunswick and Adelaide
Traditionally a Lib Dem stronghold, Brunswick & Adelaide is likely to produce a fiercer fight than in previous election years.
While Labour and the Greens were runners-up last time and are again working hard in the ward, the Conservative Party is also hitting the area with more conviction.
Lib Dem councillors Paul Elgood and David Watkins romped home in 2003. And despite pressure from other parties and the Lib Dems' close allegiance with the Labour party on some controversial votes, including the King Alfred redevelopment, Coun Elgood remains quietly confident his party will retain the seats.
He said: "The biggest issues are the seafront and antisocial behaviour, which we are doing a lot of work on."
The Conservative candidates are Joanne Heard, daughter of neighbouring councillor Averil Older, and Roz Rawcliffe. Ms Heard said: "We have been working very hard on the seat. People are saying it is time for a change."
The Greens also hope to take the seat, with Hazel Ellison and Phelim MacCafferty campaigning to save NHS services and on lesbian, gay, bisexual and transgender issues, including reinstating funds cut from the HIV budget.
The Lib Dems remain favourites to retain their seats.
