John Burt from Falmer Parish Council said lawyers would be scrutinising the documents to see if there was the possibility of an appeal.

He said: "It is an extremely disappointing decision. We had always felt we had the moral high ground and that our village would be protected by planning laws but this has not been the case."

And Falmer Parish Councillor Simon Barnes described the decision as "depressing."

He said: "We are very disappointed. We really did think Sheepcote Valley was a much better venue for it.

"I think if you come here in ten years' time the area will be going to be overdeveloped and Falmer will just be another part of Brighton."

moral high ground?

You claimed that the people of Moulsecoomb didn't have the intelligence or skills to do the jobs required at a stadium, you lied and rubbished our award-winning club in the community scheme and printed photos of Ditchling Beacon and claimed that this was where we would be building.

Snakes in the grass, all of you.

As usual the opponents fail to take the time to read the FACTS. I'd have more respect for their argument if they actually bothered to read the reports - it's clear as a bell why Falmner is the ONLY venue.

"We couldn't put the stadium on a brownfield site in Brighton and Hove because we could build lots of flats there and get lots of council tax". This decision is a complete joke! I feel so sorry for the village of FALMER . I thought it was supposed to be BRIGHTON and HOVE Albion. Losers!

Vic, Brighton says...

How much money have Falmer Parish Council wasted on their objections and how much has this cost the club. Don't they realise there are only 23 home matches in the league that can ruin their idylic way of life. Time to call it quits

Adrian, Hove says...

Does anybody in Falmer want to sell me their house at a knock down price as they think it is blighted? No, I thought not. Muddy fields are not beautiful. The stadium will be no problem to you lot.

Fantastic news!

Anyone for a pint in the Downs Hotel Woodingdean on the first match day?

Having been raised in Woodingdean, I believe that this will be great for the villages of Woodingdean AND Falmer.

It is about time both places got some life.

John "disappointing" Burt and Simon " depressing" Barnes, you do not represent the people of Falmer, you just shout louder than the other "villagers" and make them feel intimidated. The people I know who live there actually want the stadium, but the belligerant bully-boy anti-brigade make them too scared to speak out. You should welcome this enhancement to your "village". Anyone who actually reads the facts and visits the site can clearly see that it's the best place for the community stadium. So crawl home, stop pretending to occupy the moral high ground, and find something positive to channel your energy into. You could even help build the thing.

Apologies for above comment, turns out they weren't intimidated, just felt their voices couldn't be heard as the antis shouted louder. (!) Sorry JB and SB. Still think you should embrace the stadium.

John Burt, Falmer - under a rock says...
1:44pm Fri 27 Jul 07

I will NEVER embrace the new stadium.... I only have little puny arms and could never reach that far. Sniff sniff, I'm off to sulk in my cocoa.

mapman, brighton says...
4:44pm Sun 29 Jul 07

Surely the 'moral high ground' would be to accept the will of the majority and the two government decisions to endorse the Falmer site with the good grace befitting a parish council?

dazza, somewhere in brighton says...
2:31pm Fri 14 Sep 07

I wish Everyone in lewes would just shut up and let the building plans 4 the stadium go through as for the last 4 months lewes has been acting like babies and crying about their "beautiful countryside" opposite. just accept the fact that the stadium is gonn get built and stop crying like babies! UP THE ALBION!!!!!!!!!!!!
