A serial flasher faces a five-year prison sentence after repeatedly exposing himself in his quest for an all-over tan.

Richard Stofer, 63, of Milton Road, Eastbourne, has a history of letting it all hang out when the sun comes out.

The nudist, who has sunbathed naked for more than 25 years, has been remanded in custody after his latest public exhibition.

Stofer was arrested at his home on Sunday afternoon after being seen sunbathing naked earlier that day on Holywell beach in Eastbourne.

He has previously been warned by judges on two occasions he faced jail if caught exposing himself in public again.

In May 2005 the exhibitionist was given a twoyear conditional discharge and a five-year antisocial behaviour order (Asbo) banning him stripping in public anywhere in Sussex.

He was given the Asbo for stripping off three times in June 2004 in front of sun seekers on Holywell beach, Eastbourne.

On one occasion, he lay with his legs apart wearing see-through women's underwear decorated with a heart shape.

Weeks later, the flasher was seen by neighbours and passers-by sunbathing in his front garden wearing transparent underwear.

Stofer was told by Judge Anthony Scott Gall he could be sent to prison for five years if caught flouting the order.

In July 2006, the exhibitionist was caught by police lying naked in a neighbour's garden while she was out.

Police were called to Victoria Drive, Eastbourne, after children saw him lying on his front, from an upstairs window of their house.

Officers who climbed on to a chair and peered over a hedge could see him in the neighbour's garden. He claimed he had gone into the garden after his own lawn was left in the shade.

In June this year, he appeared in court again and was given a five-month prison sentence, suspended for two years.

He was given a final warning by Judge Cedric Joseph and told he faced a prison sentence if he was caught flashing again.

After being given the five-year Asbo, Stofer said: "I like sunbathing naked and I have done for 25 years."

PC Ginny Jupp, Eastbourne District Asbo co-ordinator for Sussex Police, said: "Richard Stofer currently has an Asbo in force against him which was put into place following a number of incidents of a similar nature.

"It allows the police to respond quickly and deal with any such incidents in a positive manner."

Stofer is due to appear before Eastbourne magistrates on August 17.
