The Argus wins prestigious awards

The Argus has been named Daily Newspaper of the Year at a prestigious awards ceremony.

The newspaper won the title in the EDF Energy London and the South of England Media Awards 2007, held at Sandown Park Racecourse in Surrey today.

The Argus also won Website of the Year for www.theargus.co.uk, which was picked up by Website Editor Mary Kalmus.

Our reporters and photographers were also successful at the event:

  • Sarah Lewis won Environmental Journalist of the Year.
  • Andy Naylor was named Sports Journalist of the Year.
  • Simon Dack won News Photographer of the Year while Terry Applin was highly commended in the category.
  • Lawrence Marzouk and Louise Acford were highly commended in the Print Journalist of the Year (Daily) category.
  • Our subbing team were also highly commended in the Front Page of the Year award for our 'Teenage Kicks' story earlier this year.

Michael Beard, Editor of The Argus, said: "It is a reflection of a year's hard work where we have all pulled together to produce a great newspaper and website. I am extremely proud of my team."
