Firefighters had a busy night after attending several flooded properties.

As the rain continued to pour overnight in Sussex, West Sussex Fire and Rescue Service were called to homes in Storrington, Crawley and East Preston to deal with flooding and lightning strikes last night.

The first call was to a property in West Green Drive, Crawley, where firefighters had to pump water out of the home which was flooded.

They were also called to properties in Staplefield Road and High Street, both in Storrington, to pump water and sewage from a kitchen and cellar.

At 10.17pm, the fire and rescue service was called to a home in Angmering Lane in East Preston, near Worthing, after an electrical surge caused by a lightning strike caused two television sets to explode.

Roof tiles at the property were dislodged by the lightning strike but no one was injured and firefighters made sure the electric supply was safe.
