THIS month’s Comic Relief show helped to raise more than £78 million – pushing Comic Relief’s Red Nose Day appeal over the £1 billion mark since it was launched in 1985.

Viewers tuned into the annual live show to watch a host of celebrities perform one-off sketches live in front of the nation on BBC One.

Dressmaker Roman Originals set up an auction raising £2,700 for the charity with a white and gold version of a black and blue dress which sparked a national debate.

The original dress divided opinion when some people saw it as one set of colours and others felt the shades were different.

Longhill School pupils took part in a charity read-athon which raised £900 for the Malcolm Sargent Cancer Fund in 1992 and are shown flicking through a pile of books.
