Hanningtons was once dubbed the “Harrods of Brighton” but now it is long gone.
In its heyday the store employed more than 200 staff across 70 different departments and was the toast of North Street for nearly 200 years.
But in 1987, when this picture was snapped, the store was already flagging and, come the turn of the new millennium, it had been sold.
