A FORMER Labour party leader was in town yesterday on the election campaign.

The party’s previous deputy leader Harriet Harman, who has twice been acting leader of the party between leadership elections in 2010 and 2015, came to Hove yesterday to join Peter Kyle on the campaign trail.

The pair dropped in to the Pelican Cafe on Portland Road, where the the like-minded Labour politicians were peppered with questions from residents.

Later former MP Tessa Jowell, cabinet minister in the Tony Blair and Gordon Brown administrations, joined campaigners in Goldsmid ward.

Mrs Harman has represented the safe Labour seat of Camberwell and Peckham in South London since 1997.

Baroness Jowell represented Dulwich and West Norwood from 1997 to 2015 and now sits in the House of Lords.
