YOUNGSTERS are pleased as punch they will have another year playing in a Green Flag park.

The Level in Brighton is one of seven city parks to retain the revered park standard.

Easthill Park, Hove Park, Kipling Gardens, Preston Park, St Ann’s Well Gardens and Stoneham Park have also received the prestigious award for excellence which is handed out by Keep Britain Tidy to recognise the best parks and green spaces across the country.

St Ann’s Well Gardens in Hove flies the flag for the 18th year while The Level is a relative newcomer by comparison in holding the Green Flag status for a fourth year running.

The good news came after the culmination of the annual Love Parks Week which saw a series of events highlighting the work of volunteers in maintaining the city’s parks while encouraging more residents to take up the call.

Councillor Gill Mitchell, environment committee chairwoman, said: “It’s fantastic news that we will once again be flying seven Green Flags in parks in Brighton, Hove, Portslade and Rottingdean.

“It’s a real city-wide success story.”
