SAT nav companies need to intervene to stop lorries becoming trapped in residential roads, a councillor has said.

Brighton and Hove City Councillor Peter Atkinson is calling on council officials to contact sat nav companies to correct directions sending lorries up Mile Oak Road in his ward of North Portslade.

The Labour councillor has contacted the council’s transport department to see if there is a mechanism that will allow the council to flag up problems like this with the sat nav companies.

Cllr Atkinson said: “At least once a month a lorry gets stuck at the top of this road just before the Mile Oak farm, often in the night.

“When it becomes obvious they’re on the wrong road, they then have to try and reverse back up the main road, which isn’t that wide, and then reverse round into a residential road. Something is obviously wrong with this part of their sat nav map and there must be some way of telling them.”
