LEWES MP Maria Caulfield and the Royal College of Nursing are to hold a Scrap the Cap event in Parliament tomorrow.

The idea is to give the Royal College of Nursing the opportunity to lobby Parliamentarians from across the House of Commons and Lords about the need for the public sector pay cap for nurses to be scrapped following years of pay freezes and a one per cent cap.

Maria Caulfield was a full-time NHS cancer nurse until her first election to Parliament in 2015.

She still finds time to work at the Royal Marsden specialist cancer care unit during recess and time away from Westminster.

She said: “Having worked as a full-time nurse under the pay freeze before my first election, I know the pressures that many nurses are facing in the NHS.

“I have met with the Royal College of Nursing and am delighted to be able to give them a chance to put their views across to other Parliamentarians.

“I would urge people to contact their MPs in these last few days to encourage them to attend the event. I am perfectly placed to help put across the concerns of nurses.”

Ms Caulfield has long campaigned on behalf of nurses.
