TODAY is the last chance for people to have their say on the future of the Dyke Pub.
Campaigners have fought for more than a year to save the pub in Dyke Road, Brighton, after it was shut without notice and reopened as a furniture store.
Owner Martin Webb said the pub was struggling to run a profit for 18 months due to a lack of trade.
Last month, the city council issued a building preservation notice, giving it protection similar to listed buildings for six months, meaning the work was halted.
The campaign group Save The Dyke Pub is now opposing revised plans from the owners and calling for people to give their reasons why the pub should be saved.
The new plans put forward reveal a half-sized pub would be in place next to the furniture store.
The group says its reasons for rejecting the owners’ plans include the pub’s heritage, saying proposed rooflights would have a negative impact on historic elevations. It also says the terrace would not provide adequate services to the community.
Save The Dyke Pub says the plans “leave question marks” over the sustainability of the pub.
Anyone wishing to object can do so as many times as they like before tomorrow. To find out more, go to savethedykepub.org.uk
