DEMONSTRATORS gathered to show their feelings over the A27 Arundel Bypass consultation.
More than 450 people met to protest against Option 5A, which will cut through protected woodland and a village if approved.
Many of the protesters at the protest in Binsted, near Arundel, carried placards with the wording “Foul Play on 5A”, a reference to their belief that Highways England has provided inaccurate documents in the hope of swaying the public before the consultation ends.
There are also environmental considerations over the plan.
The area is a known bat hot spot and is home to dormice and water voles, both of which are rare and protected species.
Both the Sussex Wildlife Trust and the Campaign to Protect Rural England are calling for a rethink on road planning to protect areas like Binsted before it is too late.
CPRE Sussex director Kia Trainor said: “We have to look at whether the devastating impact that the road will bring is worth that few minutes.”
