A SENIOR shadow cabinet minister is to rally Labour supporters.
Shadow foreign secretary Emily Thornberry will meet members and supporters at a fundraising dinner in Hassocks on November 30.
Over the last two years, membership in Arundel and South Downs constituency has quadrupled. At the General Election earlier this year, Labour doubled its share of the vote and for the first time leapt ahead of the Lib Dems to become the official opposition in the Sussex constituency.
Local chairwoman Caroline Fife said: “People have been inspired to join Labour in huge numbers as they recognise that Labour offers a real alternative to the Tories. Residents have had enough of the cutbacks and unfair politics of the Tories in this area. Their policies have led to worsening public services affecting all ages from school children to pensioners.”
The fundraising dinner is to be held at the Hassocks Hotel on November 30 and tickets are sold out.
