What is the biggest single issue in the constituency you are standing in?

Hove is doing fine but, like the UK, could do much better. I want a cleaner Hove, homelessness addressed, private letting made fairer, train links better managed, community spaces nurtured and lower business rates.

Do you believe that Brexit can bring about a positive change to Sussex?

The EU was a scapegoat for UK problems, which successive governments ignored. Brexit was about poverty, unemployment, mismanaged infrastructure and neglect. Those issues are still not addressed. Away from propaganda, it’s time to reassess.

Brexit could inspire constitutional reform. If not, because all efforts are on negotiations, then it is a lose/lose for all.

Given the US stance on climate change, the EU is reforming and will strengthen. On a deal, British self-interest is unworkable.

Who will win this election?

It would be disappointing if the Conservatives won overwhelmingly. That they alone can govern is a myth. That Labour is the party for the people, another myth. Parliament needs to be reimagined. Society is not best served by a one party state.

Who is your political hero and why?

Lloyd George and Attlee for welfare reforms. Macron, for a new visionary politics. Merkel for being principled, visionary and always authentic. Co-operation is the common theme.

What has been the best moment you have had out campaigning?

Both Labour and Conservative candidates have not been at the meetings or hustings I have. This lack of interaction and debate indicates a wider problem.

Chatting with people on the bus is probably more sincere than shipping in strangers to deliver party leaflets.

Discussion with first time voters at a Brighton hustings as the only Hove candidate there was a privilege.

A tour of the Martlets hospice showed me about community, and how government can help. This is politics.

Is this election necessary considering we already have a majority government that was due to run until 2020?

Voting three times in three years isn’t democracy; it’s about ego and power.

Elections are every five years and if you start bending laws, where does it lead?
