Barbecue sparks fire fear in Seaside Road, Eastbourne
Firefighters rushed to the scene of a reported balcony blaze – only to find a group of friends having a barbecue.
Neighbours dialled 999 after spotting smoke coming from a nearby house.
The Eastbourne crew was called out at 10.45pm on Saturday night to the property in Seaside Road.
On arrival they found a group of friends enjoying flame-grilled burgers and hotdogs.
An East Sussex Fire and Rescue spokeswoman said that the problem was “common” and urged residents to warn their neighbours if they were having a barbecue.
