Residents are being urged to pull their fingers out if they want to be a record breaker.

A salon is looking to mark its tenth year by attempting a nail-biting world record attempt on a historic pier.

Worthing’s beauty salon and skin clinic, Euphoric, is looking to gather more than 1,200 volunteers on Worthing Pier to break the world record for the greatest number of people painting their nails at the same time.

The fundraising world-record attempt on Saturday,4 October 26 has already caught the imagination of the town with 100 people signing-up on the first day the event was announced.

The current Guinness World Record is held by Taiwan with 1,156 people who took part in their event in 2011.

Would-be record breakers are asked to go to the main pier entrance off Marine Parade from 1.30pm with the actual attempt taking place at 2.45pm when everyone will paint their nails for at least five minutes or have five nails painted.

Volunteers are asked to bring along their own nail polish and will receive a certificate of participation along with a voucher for a free manicure or pedicure at Euphoric in the following six months as a thank you for joining in.

The mayor of Worthing, Councillor Bob Smytherman, will be on hand to verify the authenticity of the event.

There will be an entry charge of £1 per participant with every penny going to Breast Cancer Care and Guild Care, which looks after older people with dementia and Alzheimer’s.

The spa and beauty clinic based in South Farm Road in Worthing was founded ten years ago by Zoe Clark.

Miss Clark said looking back she thinks she was “crazy” for starting the business with just five clients after previously working as beauty therapist for Virgin.

She said: “We were looking to do something different for our tenth birthday.

“We had done events before in the salon but then we just started talking and the idea just grew.

“It’s a big number but we are quite confident we can do it.

“Worthing is a close town and people are very pro-Worthing, this is something good for us and good for Worthing and will put the town on the map.”
