Woman sells Newhaven home after 106 years

Selling the family home is a difficult time for anyone.

But for Catherine Sinclair her house holds even more memories than most.

Her Newhaven home has been in the family for the past 106 years, since it was built by her grandfather.

As well as being brought up in it herself, Mrs Sinclair also raised her own children there.

But she has now put it on the market for £315,000 to move closer to her daughter.

The 74-year-old said: “I feel that it is the right time to move but it will be a wrench.

“I would love it to still be a family home for someone else.”

The property was built in 1903 by Mrs Sinclair’s grandfather Alfred Knight. The master builder was responsible for creating a number of streets in the area and also laid the Newhaven bowling green in Fort Road.

The four-bedroomed house is being marketed by Fox & Sons estate agents in Peacehaven.

Will be bought by a landlord and cut up into 4 studios by April. I would bet a £315k on it.

It took that long to persuade someone else to live in Newhaven

Why doesn't she rent it out instead? That would save her all the costs of selling and buying. She's got an asset worth a third of million; she should think carefully before getting shot of it. She could live to be a hundred...

And the point of this story is? Besides, whats a blue rinser doing moving closing to her daughter, the daughter should move close to her - complete and utter tripe!

Aah, how lovely of this lady to want to be near her daughter..... what a decision she must have made to sell her home that has been in her family for years. Some people need to get a life and instead of making horrible comments about people they don't know, they should look at themselves. I wish Mrs Sinclair all the luck in the world!!!!
