Our pictures of the Smash EDO Brighton Mayday protest

Our photographers were out in force yesterday taking pictures of the protest.

Click on the gallery in the related links below to view the scores of pictures they took.

Photographs are by Simon Dack, Kate Howell, Terry Aplin and Eddie Mitchell, as well as submitted pictures from a variety of readers.

If you have pictures of the protest, email Jo Wadsworth. Alternatively, if you're on Flickr, upload them to our special Flickr group.

Why does one of your pictures say "police use tear gas" - when they didn't? Not good reporting.

Hi Emma,

Thanks for pointing that out. It was a mistake made in the rush to get as much coverage on the web yesterday as possible. It has now been corrected.

Am I the only one who thinks Saturday's Children's Parade had more of a disruptive influence on the city then Monday's dreadful organised demo. It was a laughable shambles.

At least we knew in advance that North Street and church street were to be closed between 10.30am and 1.30pm..

And the childrens Parade was peaceful from what I saw of it..

I didn't see any kids throwing paint, climbing lampposts etc.

And the alledged protest wasn't organised. Organised means information is shared (so the like of Buses can re-route etc). which I will say Happened at the childrens parade.

Sharing information with the police about routes often leads to routes being diverted from where you want to go and anyone that agrees to be an organizer being repressed by police. The police have made it impossible to work with them over demos if they don’t like your group or your issue they will find a way to target named organizers.

The city is preparing for the biggest demonstration Brighton and Hove has ever seen with thousands expected to attend the Mayday march organised by peace campaign group Smash EDO.
