Eastbourne road closed by snow

Hazardous driving conditions forced an Eastbourne road to shut today.

The A259 East Dean Road was closed both ways between the B2103 Warren Hill at Beachy Head and Downs View Lane earlier this afternoon.

The road is now open. However, people are being warned to approach it carefully because the road has not yet been gritted.

Snow started to fall in East Sussex this morning.

The Met Office is advising heavier snow will hit the county tomorrow.

Have any roads near you been shut because of the weather?

You obviously don't know that stretch of road very well, it's in a dip with the a 30% incline each side of Eastdean, prone to freezing and drifting and often shut when it snowed in the past. Some roads you can't treat, however, well prepared and this is one.

anyone remember the ex USAF truck mounted snow blowers used after the war on this bit of road, also apparently at bolney?

Reporting well up to Argus standard. The road was 'forced to close' eh? First intelligent road I've come across!

My daughter's boyfriend was on a bus on that road which was unable to negotiate around a car parked on a bend in the road. The bus ended up blocking the road. The police arrived on the scene, but failed to divert traffic for 30 minutes or so. The bus was stuck for 1.5 hours until gritting rescuers arrived....
Not sure where 'blame' lies...but presumably if the driver of the parked car had parked more conscientiously, the bus would have made the curve okay. But I guess if the road had been properly gritted, it would not have happened in any event.
But why did the Argus not state the reason WHY the road was closed?!
