The annual Lewes Bonfire celebration is one of the largest bonfire events in the country. Official numbers have never been established but estimates suggest that up to 60,000 will take to the historic streets of Lewes for this year's event.

Parking on roads across Lewes is suspended from 2pm on November 5 – see map below.

Lewes residents are advised to return to the town by 5pm as roads closures begin at this time.

Public transport is extremely crowded with queuing systems operating at railway stations.

The Lewes Bonfire Council advises the event is unsuitable for children.

The United Grand procession starts at approximately 7.40pm. Following the procession, each society holds a bonfire at sites around the town, marked on the map below.

The fires will be lit at around 9.30pm and be followed be a firework display.

Tickets can be bought in advance from the bonfire societies. Some do not charge but instead ask for a donation.

Tens of thousands of people arrived by train and British Transport Police, Sussex Police, fire crews and paramedics will be on standby to attend any incidents.

Brighton Station is operating a queuing system for trains travelling eastbound to Lewes from 3pm.
