Police have released dramatic footage of a terrifying high speed car chase across Sussex.

Cameras mounted on police cars recorded speeds of 120mph as Lance Harvey-Allinson raced through Brighton and up the M23.

The 23-year-old fugitive even refused to stop after the tyres of his Renault were shredded by a spiked police stinger.

He continued to drive with sparks flying from the wheels until the car ground to a halt.

Harvey-Allinson made off on foot, but was captured hiding in a garden after he was spotted by a police helicopter with a heat-seeking camera.

The dramatic 40-mile chase began after the Renault with four people in it clipped a pedestrian on a crossing outside the Royal Albion Hotel, Brighton, on April 5.

It sped off but later stopped so that Harvey-Allinson could take over the driving because the original driver had been drinking.

Harvey-Allinson pleaded guilty to dangerous driving, having no licence or insurance, and failing to give a sample and appeared at Brighton Crown Court for sentence yesterday.

Harvey-Allinson, from Waldronhyrst, South Croydon, was given a 12 month prison sentence suspended for 18 months.

He must also do 200 hours unpaid community work and was banned from driving for two years.
