Murder investigation after fatal stabbing in South Chailey
A man was in custody today after a 63-year-old man received fatal stab wounds during an incident involving family members, according to police.
Police and ambulance crews were called to Mill Lane, South Chailey, near Lewes, at 4.07pm yesterday after a man from the Uckfield area suffered serious stab wounds.
Ambulance crews were unable to save him and the victim was declared dead at the scene, a Sussex Police spokesman said.
A 33-year-old local man was arrested at the scene on suspicion of murder.
Detective Chief Inspector Jeremy Graves said: "This appears to be an isolated incident between family members and we are not looking for anyone else at this stage of the investigation.
"At this time I would like to appeal for anyone who witnessed the incident or who may have seen or heard an argument between two men in Mill Lane shortly before 4pm to contact police."
A Sussex Air Ambulance spokesman said: "We were called to a stabbing in Chailey at 4pm.
"We took seven minutes to arrive and landed in a field adjacent to the property.
"The patient was a male who had suffered multiple stab wounds. He died at the scene despite advanced trauma life support."
