A DYING 10-year-old has returned from a trip of a lifetime to Disneyland Paris paid for by scores of generous News Shopper readers.

Sophie Hunt, of Beaconsfield Road, Mottingham, had given up hope of getting to the world-famous attraction.

But last month, our readers pulled out all the stops for Sophie by raising £6,205 to send her off in style with close family members.

The money was more than enough to pay for the trip and the family has pledged to send the extra cash to Farnborough Hospital children's cancer unit.

The Mottingham youngster travelled by Eurostar to the plush New York Hotel in Disneyland and spent three days sampling life in the theme park dedicated to Walt Disney's famous characters.

It was a far cry from the desperation of a few weeks before, when she had been given just weeks to live by specialist doctors at Great Ormond Street Hospital.

The Hunts turned to the children's cancer charity Christian Lewis, who helped them arrange the trip and two night stay in the New York Hotel in Disneyland.

Speaking before he left for Paris last Friday, grandfather Terry Hunt told how moved the family had been by the “unbelievable” efforts of generous readers.

He said: “It's been like a dream and I am so grateful to the dozens of people who are so caring.

“After all that has happened, I have to say I have a lot of faith in people.”

And speaking hours after the return, he said: “Sophie's favourite ride was Peter Pan. The attendant was a real gentleman and it was very nice flying over London.”
