Designer, creator and stylist Jasmine Orchard lives, breathes and sleeps interiors. Women Actually’s monthly columnist runs Brighton-based Jasmine Orchard Styling, where she styles stunning settings for homes, events and weddings. Here she shows how to create a summery masterpiece...

I HAVE been using a lot of pinks, greenery and flowers recently in my styling work. Maybe it’s because it’s fast approaching summer or maybe I, like others, am influenced by current trends and these soft but tropical colours.

Personally, I have been taking a bit of a Palm Beach influence with a retro stance and am loving using my flamingos (props, not real live ones) alongside large peacock chairs, palm leaves, painted pineapples (these are real), touches of pink décor and an abundance of fresh wild flowers.

You will probably be aware of some interior trends right now: seen a lot of copper or flamingos or festoon lights around? Sometimes you’re not even aware of what’s in trend but if you have noticed a lot of any of the things I’ve mentioned above, then that in itself is an indication that it’s on trend. One of the harder things to do is to know how to dress your space with current trends that you like. Again, like fashion, you need to know what suits.

If you are designing or restyling a room at home, then be practical as well as fun. Tropical leaf patterns and pineapple prints are right on trend, but are busy prints, so will work best with more neutral backgrounds and then a splash of colour.

An easy tip is to buy cushion covers with these new trend prints (easy to change) and add in some large leaf plants and fresh colourful flowers to your room and you have a simple quick décor change.

If you are looking to introduce some of these trends to a larger event or wedding, then my advice would be to consider the size of your venue - high ceilings will need lots of hanging décor and taller items or plants, dark wood barns will need brightening up if you want to show off copper jugs and flowers and think about suitable places for adding props like flamingos.

Personally, I’d spend your time choosing outfits and sending invites and get the experts in to decorate. We have the tools, experience, knowledge, ideas and décor already!
