A Brighton woman has launched a website for women to discuss issues ranging from careers to parenting, and from body image to relationships.

Claire Culley, 29, described The W Review, which launched last week, as a “positive and honest” space for women to discuss important issues, current affairs and popular culture.

It includes a sub-section called The T Review, which is aimed at teenagers and includes discussions with titles such as ‘Why girls should unplug from the internet’ and ‘A letter to my sister as she leaves for university’.

Writers, both male and female, are from across the UK and the website also hosts an interactive forum for discussions.

Claire said: “I want The W Review to be positive and to encourage, rather than discourage. It is an honest community that allows women to mentor other women, and offer insight and advice in a safe, troll-free space.”

She added: “It’s written by women for women, and there are male contributors, and so far there has been an enthusiastic response.”

Among the topics currently under discussion in the Relationships section are ‘Changing roles in relationships’ and ‘Is conscious uncoupling really a thing?’, while Culture has movie reviews and a discussion on ‘Downton’s gone sexy’.

Life & Style features Autumn Essentials 2014 and the launch of Victoria Beckham’s first London store, and there’s a Jobs Board under Careers, along with articles on ‘Professionally clueless: no passion but plenty of work ethic’ and ‘Mansplaining – a beginner’s guide’. One of Wellbeing’s top features is ‘I was an adult thumbsucker’.

Claire, a freelance business consultant who also runs co-working venue Super+Super with business partner Amy Phipps and is the co-author of two books called Printmaking and Embroidery, which are out on Friday, came up for the concept of The W Review when she was made redundant from a senior management role of a large online company in May.

She said: “I set up a small consultancy business and realized that women in business and women in general needed a platform like The W Review.”
