THE Argus archive is full of treasures.

But it also throws up a fair few questions.

Each day in our new Timeout feature we will print a number of pictures from years gone by.

We want to hear from you if you recognise yourself, a relative or can help fill some gaps in our knowledge.

We kick off the feature with a fantastic photo of a Brighton seafront shoe shine from the 1960s.

Given the queue, it appears he was certainly popular, but who is he? Were you a customer?

Also in today’s feature we have adventurer Catrina Francis who appeared in the paper in 1985 as she prepared to travel around the world.

Today’s travellers would take with them a smartphone and probably a Kindle in their rucksack, neither of which were available to Catrina.

She was photographed packing printed airline tickets, travel books and her chunky Sony Walkman.

If you look closely you’ll see Catrina’s very recognisable tube of sunscreen is factor six, rather than the higher 30 plus most modern travellers would now pack.

Can anyone shed any light on this curious photograph taken in the run up to the 1975 Brighton Festival?

It appears organisers decided to use someone’s cows as moving billboards, complete with advertising for the sponsors.

But who was the farmer who loaned his cows, where is this and were you one of those who had to put the coverings on the animals?

Going further back we found this fascinating photograph of a steam locomotive at Brighton station.

A group of well suited men are pictured in front of the train. But who are they? Do you recognise a father or grandfather among them?
