THE Royals have had a difficult relationship with Brighton ever since Queen Victoria shunned our great city.

But a royal visit to these parts is always a big deal, as appears to have been the case in 1955.

These photos from our archive show the Queen Mother Queen Victoria visiting Brighton Station.

The two shots on this page are part of a collection of 12 images that show more of her tour of the city.

It appears she arrived by car along the Old Steine.

The photo to the right shows the crowds lined along the road awaiting her arrival.

Let us know if you can spot yourself in the crowd.

As the photo above shows, she gets out at the station and is met by various dignitaries.

She is all smiles as she looks to the cameras while clutching flowers in her hand.

And for a relatively small lady she makes up for it with some killer heels.

We are not sure who is in the welcoming party. Presumably one of them is the mayor.

If you can identify any of them or inform us why she was visiting then please get in touch.
