BOTH grown men and little boys seem to be enjoying their work of piling sandbags high in these photographs from our archive.
But unless our records are wrong, the year is 1937, so without the immediate threat of war what has moved these chaps young and old to go about their task?
Are floods imminent? Was it a training exercise?
UPDATE: The record response generated by our publication of Albion team photos from 1958 continues to grow.
After an impressive attempt at naming the entire squad by reader Frank Hinton, Tony Green from Sompting has contacted us to deliver the final touch. We shall not accuse him of goal poaching under the circumstances.
Mr Green writes: “The player Frank Hinton could not place was wing half/midfield South African Eric Hodge, a reserve as was Alan Brown, the tall guy in back row in main team photo. The Browns were a family of footballers from Lewes.”
He said these photos brought back wonderful memories of 63 years supporting Albion.
