WE have had plenty of Boy Scouts in the paper over the past few months but not many Girl Guides.
Today’s main image, from 1961, shows a troop walking through town on their way to a church service.
We think it is Hastings judging by the shop on the right and the road signs.
There are some great posters in the background as well.
“Cheap tickets to London,” one reads, “only 14 shillings” – less than £1 in today’s money
The other poster is for the Gaiety Cinema. The top film is The Greengage Summer starring none other than Kenneth Williams.
There must be a few readers out there who recognise themselves among the Girl Guides? Get in touch if you can see yourself or a friend.
The photo right is also from the early 1960s and shows some sort of big community gathering.
Looks like the ladies serving have plates full of rolls and there are plenty of smiles.
But what was the occasion? Were you there? Do you recognise a friend of family member?
