SEAGULLS fans will fondly remember some of the legendary players to have graced the pitch over the years.

Former Brighton and Hove Albion goalkeeper Brian Powney can be seen in our main picture in 1971, diving to save a goal in front of a crowd of children, looking like he just got it in his clutches.

He lived in Seaford and made a return to the sport off the pitch to chair and manage his home town team.

He also went on to run a vending machine company after his days as a player.

Striker and left-winger Gary Nelson played for Albion between 1987 and 1991, making a total of 144 appearances and scoring an astounding 47 goals during this time.

Pictured above in 1988, he played for the club while they competed in the Football League.

Even in 2009, Nelson was still keen to play the game he loved, making appearances for Charlton Athletic veterans and Old Southendians.

After his career on the pitch, Nelson went on to write two memoirs – Left Foot Forward and Left Foot In The Grave.

He is also pictured above receiving a cheque from local team Seaford Seagulls in 1989, in the middle of his Albion career.

Retired footballer and former Albion striker Michael Robinson can be seen above sporting a Seagulls hat in 1983 during the last year of his three-year career at the club. He scored a total of 37 goals for the club and made more than 100 appearances.

Tony Millard, who died in 2013 at the age of 74, was a much-loved broadcaster and commentator who was known for voicing Albion’s club-call telephone service in the 1980s.

He commentated on many Albion matches broadcast on local radio stations and was working during the final game at the old Goldstone ground in Hove.
