His story: Ade Akinbiyi arrived at the Goldstone on loan in November 1994 to provide greater fire-power in a side that had not won for eleven matches.
Although his first game ended in defeat, the big striker – very much the mould of former Albion favourite Michael Robinson – contributed a great deal to a big improvement in the club’s performances with four goals.
The 20-year-old’s other six games resulted in three wins and three draws, and his forward somersault to celebrate a goal thrilled the fans.
He later moved to a number of clubs where his relationship were fans were less favourable – most notably Leicester City when he was booed off the pitch after a calamitous match against Liverpool where he missed four easy chances.
Akinbiyi is currently player-coach at Colwyn Bay FC and regularly makes the shortlist for the worst players to have ever played in the Premier League.
