A council leader and professor will sit on an expert panel seeking to discover ideas that can help address humanity’s biggest problems.

Prof Marc Cowling will sit on the Brighton Grand Challenge panel, which will represent international business, academia and government organisations.

Brighton and Hove City Council leader Jason Kitcat and Sussex Innovation Centre director Mike Herd will also judge entries.

The challenge is offering two entrepreneurs the chance to develop their solutions at NASA Research Park, California, through the Singularity University's Executive Program.

The competition is sponsored by American Express and Singularity University, in partnership with University of Brighton, University of Sussex, Brighton and Hove City Council and Wired Sussex.

Entries must be submitted by September 15 and the final will be held on September 26.
