A new bright and spacious library in Mile Oak opened as a ‘soft launch’ on August 18.

Situated within the new Portslade Aldridge Community Academy (PACA) the library offers six computers for public use although the internet is still slow when sending email via the council server . There is a separate section for children but I am not sure that a play area ten feet away from a study area is prudent?

The library has, of course a dual role used by the school during term time up to 2pm. The school also has a separate section.

The opening hours for the public remain the same: Mon, Tue, Wed and Friday 2pm- 5pm with late opening Thursday 2pm- 7.30pm. It is open Saturday 9.30am-12.30pm.

As a customer I would have preferred that a couple of the PC stations were more independently spaced, but this said it is a vast improvement from the old library.

As well as a growing range of books there are DVDs which can be hired for around £3.

The library will prove a welcome asset for the community. It is here for all of us so the recent vandalism is simply foolish.
