It made me smile and relieved when I read of Trevor Alford’s opinion of life under a Labour government of the 1970s, (take us back to the bad old days) that he wasn’t having a dig at the Callaghan Government.

However, I would remind him that half of that decade was under the Conservatives when we got decimalisation which resulted in a 30% devalue of everyone’s wages overnight, the Arab oil crisis, a trebling of crude oil prices and industrial action (strikes) as workers fought to keep up income levels due to inflation.

Life under any past Labour government was nothing compared to decades of misery under a Conservative Government – riots in cities, communities destroyed by big city asset strippers and monetarist polices.

Let’s face it, life was and is never as grim as under any Tory regime!
