I must commend Lewes District Council for clamping down on irresponsible dog owners who don’t clean up their dogs excrement (The Argus September 11: Fluorescent spray to highlight dog fouling).

As someone who recently moved back to the valley area of Newhaven, and a dog walker who always carries poo bags and uses the Lewes Road recreation walk, the amount of dog mess was horrendous.

It was a lovely walk, but you had to watch where you trod.

The new signs are great but we need a lot more of them, all round the valley area, and also much more of the red doggy poo bins.

Also, the fluorescent spray is a good idea. In the age of the mobile phones with cameras, walkers could photograph any irresponsible dog owner letting his dog poo and not cleaning it up.

Take a picture and email it to Lewes District Council and let them start catching and fining people who are ruining the environment.
