Labour councillors were pleased to back those calling for affordable rents in the private rented sector (Argus October 24).
As The Argus reported last month, Labour locally and nationally have pledged to help the thousands of private tenants in the city by bringing in secure, longer term tenancies, a tenants’ charter and landlord licensing.
If elected to lead the council I will appoint a lead councillor to champion the needs of private sector tenants and oversee the new measures.
I welcome Green Party support for our proposals but question why they have done nothing to introduce landlord licensing in the past four years despite promising to do so?
